Terms of Use
VeilGuard browser extension, Windows desktop app, VeilGuard Keyboard for Android, VeilGuard for Outlook and the team console · Last updated
In short: VeilGuard is a tool that helps you avoid sending sensitive information to the wrong place. It is not a guarantee. It can miss things, and you remain responsible for what you send. By installing or using VeilGuard you accept these terms.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
VeilGuard is a product of SecureIT, published and owned by Eight Galaxies LLC ("Eight Galaxies", "we", "us"). In these terms, "VeilGuard" means the VeilGuard browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox), the VeilGuard Windows app, VeilGuard Keyboard for Android, VeilGuard for Outlook and the Teams check app, the team console at veilguard.site, their detection rules, documentation, updates and this website. "You" means the person or organisation installing or using VeilGuard. If you use VeilGuard for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these terms for it, and "you" includes that organisation.
2. A tool to help, not a guarantee
- VeilGuard looks for patterns that often indicate sensitive information (for example card numbers, passwords, API keys and identity numbers) and warns you before it is sent. Pattern detection is imperfect: VeilGuard will not catch every piece of sensitive information, may not recognise new formats, languages, apps, websites or ways of writing data, may be switched off, paused, overridden, out of date or blocked by other software, and may sometimes warn about information that is not sensitive.
- You remain solely responsible for the information you type, paste, upload, send or share, for checking it before it leaves your device, and for complying with the laws, contracts and policies that apply to you or your organisation.
- VeilGuard is not a substitute for your own security controls, data-loss-prevention program, legal or compliance advice, or training.
3. Provided "as is"
To the fullest extent permitted by law, VeilGuard is provided "as is" and "as available", with all faults and without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, or that VeilGuard will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or will detect or prevent any particular disclosure of information.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eight Galaxies LLC, SecureIT, VeilGuard, and their owners, members, officers, employees, contractors, developers, contributors, licensors and agents (together, the "VeilGuard Parties") will not be liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from or related to VeilGuard or its use, including: any information that VeilGuard did not detect, mask or block, or that was sent after a warning; data breaches, leaks or exposure; regulatory fines or penalties; loss of data, profits, revenue, business, goodwill or reputation; or any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. If any liability cannot be excluded, the total liability of all VeilGuard Parties together is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for VeilGuard in the 12 months before the claim or US$50.
5. Your indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the VeilGuard Parties from and against any claims, demands, actions, losses, damages, liabilities, fines, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from or related to: information you or your users sent, shared or disclosed, whether or not VeilGuard detected, warned about, masked or blocked it; your use or misuse of VeilGuard; your breach of these terms; or your violation of any law or third-party right.
6. What you may not do
By using VeilGuard you agree that you will not, and will not allow, help or instruct any person, company, automated agent or AI system to:
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise try to derive the source code, detection rules, models, algorithms or internal workings of VeilGuard, except to the extent the law expressly allows this despite this restriction;
- copy, duplicate, reproduce, modify, republish, sell, sublicense or distribute VeilGuard or any part of it, other than installing it from an official source for your own use;
- use VeilGuard, its detection rules, documentation, behaviour or output to build, train or help build a product or service that copies or substantially replicates VeilGuard's features, functions or design;
- hack, attack, probe, disable, bypass or interfere with VeilGuard, its update or licensing mechanisms, the team console or any related service, or try to gain unauthorised access to them;
- use VeilGuard to commit fraud or for any unlawful, harmful or deceptive purpose;
- misrepresent what VeilGuard is or does, claim it guarantees protection, or present VeilGuard or any modified copy as your own product or as endorsed by us.
We may suspend or end your right to use VeilGuard if you break these terms. Sections 2 to 6 and 8 continue to apply after that.
7. Ownership
VeilGuard and all related intellectual property, including its code, detection rules, designs, names and logos, belong to Eight Galaxies LLC or its licensors. These terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use VeilGuard as provided; they do not transfer any ownership. Third-party components are used under their own licences, listed in each app.
8. General
- These terms work together with our Privacy Policy. Paid team plans may have additional terms; if they conflict, the team plan terms apply to the team plan.
- We may update these terms. The current version is always on this page with its date; continuing to use VeilGuard after a change means you accept it.
- If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies, and that part is enforced to the fullest extent the law allows.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the state in the United States where Eight Galaxies LLC is organised, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited by contract.
